Wombats Launch Twitter Contest to Come Play In Your Living Room

Liverpool’s The Wombats have launched a nationwide Twitter contest in advance of their upcoming U.S. tour!
Kicking off today, fans can select their city from a special interactive map on the band’s website, and then tweet to win the opportunity for the band to show up in your living room! One lucky fan will be selected from the region that collects the most votes (subject to certain terms and conditions). Voting closes when the band gets to the U.S. so get cracking.
On September 2, The Wombats will return to the U.S. for a 6-week nationwide tour that will include stops at Austin City Limits and Seattle’s Bumbershoot. The tour is in support of their hit “Jump Into The Fog.” The new single off their highly-acclaimed album, The Wombats Proudly Present…This Modern Glitch (Bright Antenna/ILG), has been one of the band’s biggest airplay records ever in the UK and Australia, marking their sixth Top 40 single overseas. The single is proving to have similar success in the U.S. - not only did it reach #1 on Sirius XM’s “Alt Nation” countdown, but it just surpassed the Top 20 mark on the Alternative Chart and continues to climb. The official music video, which you can watch (here), has over 2.6 million hits on Youtube.
The trio’s return stateside comes after a hugely successful Spring U.S. tour that saw the band performing to sold-out crowds in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and more, culminating in a performance on Conan, which you can watch here. Afterwards, the band returned to the U.K. to begin a hectic summer that has included headlining a series of Olympic Torch Relay concerts in Bolton and Liverpool, performing on the European festival circuit, and supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers on their U.K. stadium tour.
The Wombats’ sophomore album This Modern Glitch is the most successful outing from the Liverpool trio to date, debuting at #3 in the U.K. and # 2 in Australia, and receiving worldwide praise. Entertainment Weekly applauds their “bright, buzzy indie pop concoctions that have made audiences on both sides of the Atlantic shake and swoon,” while SPIN declares them “Echo & The Bunnymen for the internet age.” Similarly, The Sunday Times proclaims This Modern Glitch “a ten-song masterclass in spiky, lyrically-vivid, synth-coloured pop…nothing can detract (or distract) from this album’s infectiousness.” The Wombats made their U.S. television last year on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing their Top 20 UK single, “Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves).” The track was a BBC Radio 1 “Single of the Week”and has already gone gold in the U.K. and Australia, with its witty, tongue-in-cheek, rock stars on rampage video now at over 3.6 million YouTube plays.
The Wombats are “Murph” (lead guitar, lead vocals, keyboards), Dan Haggis (drums, backing vocals) and Tord Øverland-Knudsen (bass, backing vocals).
