The Black Keys Boycott Russia After Pussy Riot Imprisonment

Russia, you’re going to miss The Black Keys.

Drummer Patrick Carney has recently announced that he vows never to perform in Russia after local punk band Pussy Riot was imprisoned.

Three members of the punk group Pussy Riot were found guilty of hooliganism charges this past Friday after invading a Moscow church and performing a protest song addressed to President Vladimir Putin. The three unlucky souls were Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23, Maria Alekhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29.

Each band member will end up servig two years in prison for the crime.

Soon after the three were imprisoned, protests sparked against the sentence and caught the attention if pop megastar Madonna. Madonna in turn branded the sentence inhumane and has urged Russian authorities to release the three found guilty.

The Black Keys are now throwing their support for the three imprisoned women and took it a step further by boycotting playing in Russia.

Here’s what drummer Carney mentioned in his blog:

“FYI (for your information). We will never being (sic) playing a show in Russia as long as they imprison innocent musicians for speaking their minds peacefully.”

So there it is. Hopefully voice of reason does not get lost with the voice of anguish and that true justice will be served. I know they shouldn’t have done what they did but prison? That may just a bit MUCH.
